SUNSHINE COAST – HIGHEST INFRASTRUCTURE SPEND PER CAPITA IN AUSTRALIA

A $1.8bn infrastructure deal in South East Queensland was announced by the Prime Minister and Premier (21st March 2022). This is great news for ongoing sustained economic growth for the region which is great for everyone, whilst we continue to gear up for the 2032 Olympics which is very exciting for the region.

When Luxe Coastal Property Buyer’s selects a region for purchase, some of the key factors we consider are the market’s economic growth, population growth and infrastructure spend to support the growth and of course the perfect home for your family for the future. We then overlay the forecast housing supply in each sub-region, when choosing a prime location taht we think will be best for you.

The Sunshine Coast’s regional economy had grown by an average 3.5% each year since 2015, well above the average for Queensland (1.6%) and Australia (2%). The infrastructure spend is aligned to this growth.

Prior to the announcement in March 2022 of a$1.8bn investment, in South East Queensland, the Sunshine Coast already had$12.5bn of major infrastructure projects recently completed or underway which equates to the highest level of infrastructure investment, per capita, in the country, directly resulting in real job growth.

Infrastructure investment is one of the key factors to support why South East Queensland,is forecast to have continued, sustainable property growth in 2022, major projects include:

  • Sunshine Coast Health Precinct -the largest health precinct in the southern hemisphere anchored by Sunshine Coast University Hospital, opened in 2017 and is progressively expanding.
  • Sunshine Coast International Airport, completed in 2020 (the new runway attracts larger aircraft and Bonza (a new airline) is set to launch in 2022
  • Mass transit solution – detailed planning underway
  • Maroochydore CBD – first Greenfield CBD in Australia. As announced in the Courier Mail (March 2022), “Work is only months away from starting after approval was granted for a more than $50m ‘signature’ building at the Maroochydore CBD”
  • Sunshine Coast provides the fastest international connection point from east coast of Australia to Asia. It’s Queensland’s first direct international data and telecommunications connection to global markets, now in operation, attracting “high tech” tenant’s to the new Maroochydore CBD
